Some Recent Pictures

This is when it snowed in Auburn on March 1. The view is outside my apartment.

This is on my way back home on the roadtrip to see Michael, and I stopped for a picture at the border. I set my camera up on my car with the timer.

This is Uncle Gene and Aunt Claire's 'log cabin'. On this computer (at school) its hard to see with the lighting contrast, but hopefully on your computer it will be better.

Here's me and Michael at the Duke University football stadium. I also got to walk on "Coach K Court" at Duke, and spent some time at the UNC Basketball Museum too. Fun times!

Having Some Fun....

I got this 'flying top' thing to work pretty well. I'm thinking about taking it over to show some kids in the church sometime, so I thought I'd better practice first!

A Trip to Panama City

Here I am at the beach in Panama City, "The most beautiful beach in the world", according to its residents. It was a nice beach! I went down for the weekend to visit some family, and had a good time. The top of my feet got sunburned badly though!

Football!

I went to my first Auburn football game on Saturday. It was fun, although Auburn ended up losing, so there were a lot of disappointed fans. It was a close game with a lot of interesting plays: a kick off returned for a touchdown, interceptions, and a trick play where their quarterback caught a touchdown pass. I went with 4 friends from church, including my friend Tim who gave me a ticket.

Chess: 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games

That's the title of a book I purchased recently, by Laslo Polgar. He is famous for training his daughters to become among the best women chess players in history. I started working through the "Checkmate in One" Puzzles, and have completed about 200 of 344. Those are pretty quick puzzles. But then it moves on to 2 moves, 3 moves, and then some other kinds of situations. I have my chess table set up in my room, so sometimes I'll leave an interesting puzzle set up on the board.

I had a chance to play a former South Carolina state champion the other day. I lost, but it was inspiring anyways!

Free Money

In brief, the graduate school paid for my summer course as if I were a normal gradaute assistant with a tuition waiver, and then the GK-12 fellowship paid for it again. So then Auburn refunded me the extra money via direct deposit, and I got $3,266 in my bank account !!! I've been trying to get it sorted out, but figuring out who is where and what department does what has been taking some time. I got in touch with people in the Graduate School and they'll probably sort it out on Monday.
